Contained within the ornamental kidney shaped purse in the Mound One Ship Burial, at Sutton Hoo these three Merovingian coins are part of thirty seven found within the purse that were thought to have been payment for the oarsmen and helmsmen of the ship into the afterlife. The ship is thought to have been the burial site of the East Anglian King Raedwald. The coins are believed to have been minted in Tours, Angers and the Limoges areas.
