The Tornesello was minted in Venice but was specifically designated for use by the administrators of colonies of Coron and Modon, Negroponte and Crete. Antonio Venier was elected doge of Venice in 1382 at the age of 52, replacing Michele Morosini. He was interred in the Basilica di San Giovanni e Paolo, a traditional burial place of the doges. He was married to Agnese da Mosto.
